WATERVILLE, Maine - Hamilton
College sturck early and was powered by a standout performance from
goalie Mike Kaufman, who stopped 38 shots, to power past favored
Colby 4-0 at Alfond Ice Arena in Waterville. Hamilton scored 1:38
seconds into the game, when a rebound from Sean Smith's shot on net
deflected off a Colby defenseman's skate and Mike Engert chipped it
over a sprawled out J.D. Hadiaris for the Hamilton goal.
For the remainder of the period
Colby would control the puck, out-shooting Hamilton 16-5 in the
period, but were unable to catch any bounce and went into the
locker room down 1-0. The second period was very similar to the
first in that Colby had possession of the puck for the majority of
the period, but Hamilton's defense and goaltending was up to the
challenge, and turned back every Colby rush. The closest scoring
opportunity came twelv minutes into the period when the Hamilton
power play unleashed a flurry of shots on Hadiaris, but he made
spectacular saves to turn away all shots, and going into the third
period the score remained 1-0.
The third period would belong to
Hamilton though, as they widened the gap 4:59 into the third
period. Breaking down the ice with a three on two man advantage,
Steve Aubochon took passes from Nicloas Potvin and Victor Cizmarik
and blasted a shot past Hadiaris to make the score 2-0. Colby was
unable to get any consistent offense going the remainder of the
period and Hamilton goalie Mike Kaufman turned away all attempts.
Late empty met goals by Aubuchon and Potvin led to the final score
of 4-0. Hamilton will continue onto the NESCAC Final Four Playoffs
at Middlebury on Friday with a record of 11-12-1 and Colby finishes
the season at 15-9-1.
