Men's Soccer All-Conference Teams Announced
Blake of Williams Earns
Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. – Sophomore
forward Alex Blake of Williams was named the 2000 NESCAC
Men’s Soccer Player of the Year. Blake, the 1999 NESCAC
Rookie of the Year, led the conference in scoring with 18 goals and
41 points in leading the Ephs to the top seed in the conference
tournament.
Blake’s teammates Ted
Giannacopoulos and Josef Powell each earned first-team All-NESCAC
honors for the second consecutive year. Giannacopoulos, a junior
forward, and Powell, a junior midfielder, were the only two
non-seniors named to the first team in 1999.
Three players who received
second-team All-NESCAC recognition last year were named to the 2000
all-conference first team. Senior midfielder David Drucker of
Tufts, junior back Ryan Goodband of Amherst, and sophomore back
Phil Flakes of Trinity earned first team All-NESCAC honors.
Three players from NESCAC champion
Middlebury received first-team recognition. Senior back Sergey
Cherednichenko, junior goalkeeper Brian Hamm, and junior midfielder
Nelson Martelle were named to the All-NESCAC first team.
Rounding out the All-NESCAC first
team were sophomore forward Morgan Sandell of Trinity and sophomore
midfielder Peter Dee of Connecticut College.
Freshman forward Franklin Perry of
Amherst, who led the Jeffs in goals and was the conference leader
in scoring among first-year players, was named 2000 NESCAC Rookie
of the Year. 22nd-year Williams head coach Mike Russo was named
2000 NESCAC Coach of the Year.
