2000 Volleyball All-Conference Teams Released
Middlebury’s
Edwards Named Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior
middle hitter Leslie Edwards of Middlebury was named the 2000
NESCAC Volleyball Player of the Year. Edwards, a second-team
all-conference selection in 1999, averaged 3.9 kills, 3.0 digs, and
1.1 blocks per game in leading the Panthers to the top seed for the
2000 NESCAC Volleyball Championship tournament.
Three players received first-team
All-NESCAC honors for the second consecutive year. Senior setter
Kate Hagstrom of Bates was the 1997 NESCAC Rookie of the Year and
1999 NESCAC Player of the Year. Junior setter Meredith DeMeules of
NESCAC champion Amherst and junior outside hitter Jessica Stewart
of Tufts were also repeat first-team selections.
Junior middle blocker Alexis Keeler
of Wesleyan earned first-team accolades this year after receiving
honorable mention recognition in 1999. Freshman outside hitter Liz
Wanless of Bates earned first-team all-conference honors and was
also named the 2000 NESCAC Rookie of the Year.
Junior outside hitter Lauren
Fennessey of Bates, who was named to the All-NESCAC second team,
was recognized as the first NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Middlebury sixth-year head coach Sarah Raunecker was named the 2000
NESCAC Coach of the Year.
