GENESEO, N.Y. - The Hamilton College women's soccer team fell to Misericordia University, 1-0, on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament hosted by SUNY Geneseo in Geneseo, N.Y.
Hannah Larkin scored the lone goal of the game 3:36 after the opening kickoff as the Cougars developed a 15-8 shot advantage and 9-5 edge in corner kicks.
Misericordia (15-4-2) moves on to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will face Geneseo on Sunday at 1 p.m. Geneseo advanced to the second round following a 2-1 overtime win over Penn. State–Berks.
Hamilton's two most promising scoring opportunities came late in the second half. Katie McKillop fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box in the 79th minute towards the far post but Misericordia's goalkeeper Alyssa Pojero (five saves) leaped for the save. With six minutes left in the game, Katja Dunlap ripped a shot to the lower right corner from 15-yards out but Pojero made the diving stop.
Emily Dumont tallied six saves in net for Hamilton, including three big stops between the 66th and 74th minute of the game after the Continentals shifted to a 3-4-3 formation. Dumont completed her senior season with nine total shutouts, tying the program's single season record.
