2012 Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week

Kaitlin Hildebrand, Trinity
(Junior, Attacker - Berwyn, Pa.)
Hildebrand came through when it counted most for the Bantams during their run to the 2012 NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship this past weekend, scoring three goals and assisting on a fourth. During a 9-8, come-from-behind overtime win over Hamilton in the semifinals, Hildebrand tallied the game-tying goal with under two minutes left to play. Sunday against Middlebury, Hildebrand had the game-winner with less than five seconds left in an 11-10 decision.

Allie Horwitz, Amherst
(Senior, Attacker - Woodbridge, Conn.)
Horwitz recorded six goals on nine shots and assisted on three other tallies during a 2-0 week for the Lord Jeffs. On Wednesday at Trinity, Horwitz had two goals and three assists, scoring the game-winning goal on a free-position attempt with 3:47 left in regulation, as Amherst won 7-6 and snapped the Bantams’ 27-game regular season unbeaten streak. Horwitz continued to stay hot on Saturday against Bowdoin in the NESCAC quarterfinals, tallying four goals in a 9-7 victory.

Claire Donegan, Colby
(Senior, Midfielder - Great Falls, Va.)
Donegan collected four goals and four assists in a 2-0 week for the Mules, who secured the number-two seed heading into this year’s NESCAC championship. After recording two goals, four draw controls, and one caused turnover in a 10-9 victory over Bowdoin on Wednesday, Donegan had two goals and four assists - all in the second half - of Saturday’s 8-6, come-from-behind victory at Middlebury. Donegan’s four goals came on six shots, as she upped her season total to 16.

Lamia Harik, Amherst
(Senior, Goalkeeper - Rye Brook, N.Y.)
Harik posted a .667 save percentage during a key 2-0 week in NESCAC play for the Lord Jeffs heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. She racked up 18 saves, holding opponents to a 2-for-9 showing on free position shots, and scooped up eight ground balls. After making five stops in a 12-5 win over Connecticut College on Tuesday, Harik held Tufts scoreless in the first half (six saves) as part of a 13-save effort in a 12-4 victory over the Jumbos.

Liz Bruno, Trinity
(Senior, Midfielder - Andover, Mass.)
Bruno helped keep the Bantams undefeated on the season during a pair of outings last week, as she scored four goals, assisted on two others, caused seven turnovers, and scooped up four ground balls. On Friday against Colby, Bruno had two goals, four grounders, five caused turnovers, and three draw controls in an 11-9 win, as the Bantams handed the Mules their first loss of the year. Saturday against Bates, Bruno netted two goals, two assists, and two caused turnovers in a 13-6 victory.

Joan O’Neill, Bates
(Senior, Attacker - Westwood, Mass.)
O’Neill became the Bobcats’ all-time leading scorer (193 career points) during a 2-1 week, as she amassed 19 points with nine goals and 10 assists. She also scooped up six ground balls. O’Neill had four goals and two assists in a 12-10 loss at Bowdoin, three goals and four assists in an 11-10 win at Williams, and two tallies and four helpers in a 16-6 win at Wellesley.
   
Margaret Souther, Middlebury
(Junior, Attacker - Scarsdale, N.Y.)
Souther scored six goals, assisted on five others, had 10 draw controls, and scooped up three ground balls in a 2-0 week for the Panthers. After recording two goals, three assists, and eight draw controls in an 18-6 win at Colorado College on Wednesday, Souther netted four goals, two assists, and two draw controls in a 16-10 victory over Bowdoin on Saturday.

Hadley Duncan, Trinity
(Junior, Attacker - Rye, N.Y.)
Duncan scored eight goals and assisted on a ninth during a 2-0 week for the Bantams. On Wednesday at Catholic, Duncan ignited a 6-0 run over the final 5:19 of the contest with three goals during the stretch, including the game-winner with two seconds left, to give Trinity a 14-13 victory. She finished with four goals and a helper. Saturday against Bates, Duncan had another four tallies in a 14-8 win.

Kathy Yannopoulos, Bates
(First Year, Attacker - Weatogue, Conn.)
Yannopoulos did a bit of everything for the Bobcats in their 15-5 win over Wesleyan on Saturday. She had a hand in a third of her team’s goals, scoring two and assisting on three others. Yannopoulos also scooped up a game-high six ground balls, had four draw controls, and caused a turnover. Yannopoulos ranks second in scoring for Bates with eight points through four games.

Kaylin Berger, Wesleyan
(Junior, Attacker - Farmington, Conn.)
Berger scored nearly half of the Cardinals’ goals during a 1-1 weekend in NESCAC play, collecting 10 over two outings. She had a career-high six tallies during Wesleyan’s 13-8 victory over Williams on Saturday, just the second win for the Cardinals over the Ephs in the last 30 meetings. Sunday afternoon, Berger had four goals, including the game-tying goal with 6:02 to play, in an 11-10 overtime loss to Hamilton. Berger finished the weekend 4-for-4 on free-position shots.
