2018 NESCAC Softball Players of the Week

Brenna Martinez - Williams

Player of the Week

Brenna Martinez
Williams College
Senior • Infield • Arvada, Colo.

Martinez recorded a hit in every NESCAC Tournament game, batting .444 with a 1.111 slugging percentage, behind two home runs and four RBIs. She also scored three runs. In a 5-1 semifinal win over Tufts, her three-run home run erased a 1-0 deficit. In the championship game, her solo home run in the fifth put the Ephs on the board. In addition, she did not make an error in 14 total chances at second base.

Rebecca Duncan - Williams

Sophomore • Pitcher • Simi Valley, Calif.

Duncan went 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA as the Ephs claimed the 2018 NESCAC Tournament Championship. She threw a complete-game four-hitter in a 5-1 win over Tufts, allowing three walks and striking out three, then tossed a three-hitter in a 5-3 win over Bowdoin in the championship game, walking two while striking out six to improve to 15-3 on the season.

RonnieMarie Falasco - Amherst

Player of the Week

First Year • Catcher • Broomhall, Pa.

Falasco slugged 1.250 for the week, while hitting .500 as the Mammoths swept Hamilton. She posted three straight 2-hit games and homered in both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader. She drove in six runs, scored seven times  and had added three doubles.

Kirsten Pelletier - Bates

Sophomore • Pitcher • Sidney, Maine

Pelletier threw her second no-hitter of the season, blanking Colby on Friday with 10 strikeouts in five innings as the Bobcats clinched fourth place in the NESCAC East Division. On the week, Pelletier was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. She recorded 18 strikeouts in 12.0 innings and allowed two hits.

Brenna Monroe - Wesleyan

Player of the Week

Brenna Monroe

First Year • Infield • Southwick, Pa.

Monroe went 7-for-15 with two doubles, six RBIs and four runs in a 4-1 week for Wesleyan. She tallied the game-winning, two-run double in the bottom of the eighth to lift Wesleyan to a 4-3 win in over Trinity in Game 1 of a doubleheader. She was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run in a 7-4 loss to Hamilton in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Saturday, and also registered a multi-hit performance with an RBI and a run during a 9-6 win in the series opener against the Continentals.

Danielle Rinaldi - Wesleyan

Rinaldi earned the complete-game win by blanking Trinity, 6-0, in Game 2. She recorded seven strikeouts, and allowed four hits and no walks in seven innings. She was also credited with the complete-game victory in a 9-5 triumph in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Hamilton on Saturday, as she struck out 11 batters in seven innings.

RonnieMarie Falasco - Amherst

Player of the Week

Falasco hit a three-run walk-off home run in the nightcap on Saturday, as the Mammoths swept a doubleheader from rival Williams. It was the third home run of the week for the rookie, who went 6-for-10, scored five runs, and drove in seven RBIs, while slugging 1.500 for the week.

Kristina Haghdan - Tufts

Haghdan allowed two hits and one run in eight innings over two appearances in the sweep of Colby. She was 2-0 in the series with a 0.88 era and 15 strikeouts. In Game 2, she allowed two hits and one run with 10 strikeouts in a five-inning win (11-1). In Saturday’s series finale, she was pulled with a no-hitter and five strikeouts after three innings in Tufts’ 11-4 win.

Maddie Rouhana - Bowdoin

First Year • Infield • Falmouth, Maine

Rouhana led the Polar Bears to a weekend sweep of Colby as she batted .500, with five of her six hits being for extra bases, including a home run in Game 1 on Saturday and two home runs in the second inning alone on Sunday against the Mules. She knocked in seven runs and scored five runs over the two days. For the week, she batted .462 and and slugged 1.462 in five games with four homers, 10 RBIs and six runs scored as Bowdoin improved to 18-6 this spring.

Rebecca Duncan - Williams

Duncan went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA on the week. In a 12-0 win over Wesleyan, she had a perfect game through four innings and finished with a one-hit shutout. She did not walk a batter while striking out six in the five-inning game. She also batted .556 for the week with three home runs and eight RBIs, while scoring five runs and stealing a base. She had a .600 on-base percentage and a 1.556 slugging percentage as the Ephs swept the Cardinals in a three-game series.

Emma Della Volpe

Player of the Week

Emma Della Volpe

First Year • Infield • Conord, Mass.

Della Volpe’s two-out double in the bottom of the fifth drove in the game-tying RBI to make the score 1-1 in a game the Jumbos’ went on to win, 3-1, over Bowdoin on Friday. In Saturday’s first game, she threw out a Polar Bear base runner at the plate from center field in the top of the second inning. She followed up with a grand slam for her first collegiate home run to give Tufts an early 5-0 lead in Game 2. She led Tufts with five RBIs for the weekend as the Jumbos took the series 2-1 over Bowdoin.

Lorena Ukanwa - Amherst

Lorena Ukanwa

Junior • Pitcher • Morgan Hill, Calif.

Ukanwa continued her unblemished start to the season, picking up two more wins and striking out 16 batters while walking just one in 11 innings pitched. Ukanwa did not allow an earned run in either game, as she led the Mammoths to an 11-3 win over WPI and a 3-2 NESCAC win over Wesleyan, where she struck out nine batters in a seven-inning complete game.

Lexi Curt - Williams

Player of the Week

Lexi Curt

Senior • Infield/Catcher • Moorpark, Calif.

Curt batted .394 with a .447 on-base percentage and a .970 slugging percentage in a 7-3 week for the Ephs. She drove home 12 runs while scoring 11 and 10 of her 13 hits were for extra bases, including five doubles, one triple and four home runs. In the process, she set all-time records at Williams for RBIs and total bases.

Kristi Van Meter - Tufts

First Year • Pitcher • Amston, Conn.

Van Meter had three wins and a save for Tufts in Florida last week. She posted a 0.98 ERA while allowing 18 hits with 28 strikeouts and three walks in 28.2 innings. Batters hit .171 against her. She gave up six hits and a run with eight strikeouts and no walks in a complete-game win over Wisconsin-Superior. She saved a win over Wellesley on Saturday by coming in and stranding the tying run on second base in the sixth and retiring all six batters she faced.

Courtney Erickson - Trinity

Player of the Week

Courtney Erickson

Junior • Infield • Everett, Mass.

Erickson batted .500 in eight games, leading Trinity to a 7-3 record. She was 15-for-30 with 13 runs, two doubles, a triple, three home runs, and 14 RBIs. She drove home the game-tying runs in a 2-1 win against UMass Boston and a 14-13 win against Roger Williams, both comeback wins during Trinity’s seven-game winning streak.

Kirsten Pelletier - Bates

Kirsten Pelletier

Sophomore • Pitcher • Sidney, Maine

Pelletier tossed a no-hitter in Bates’ season opener against North Central (Minn.) on March 6, the team’s first since 2013. Pelletier is 5-1 with a 0.99 ERA and 44 strikeouts through 42.1 innings, limiting opposing hitters to a .180 batting average.
