HADLEY, Mass. -Tufts and Williams will represent the NESCAC in the 2016 NCAA Softball Tournament. The entire field includes 62 squads from around the nation. The regional rounds will be held May 13-15. Game times, ticket information and live coverage for all games will be announced on institutional websites later today.
Williams, which won the NESCAC Championship on Sunday to move to 32-9, was selected to host a regional site. The Ephs will face the Great Northeast Athletic Conference champion Johnson & Wales (31-10) in their first game. Williams is making its third consecutive NCAA appearance to go along with berths in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Rounding out the regional is MIT (28-11) and Western Connecticut State (23-17). MIT earned an at-large berth out of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference, while Western Connecticut State earned the Little East Conference's automatic bid.
Tufts, which was the NESCAC runner-up, will also host a regional site that will begin play on Friday, May 13. Tufts (28-10) will face Becker (27-10), the New England Collegiate Conference champion. The Jumbos, who are the three-time defending national champions, will make their 12th NCAA appearance in the last 16 seasons. WPI (35-7) and Salve Regina (24-16) were also selected to compete in the regional. WPI earned the automatic bid from of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference, while Salve Regina won the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship.
The winner of the Williams regional and the Tufts regional will meet in the super regional round May 20-21. The finals, hosted by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, will be held May 26-31 at Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia. All rounds will use a double-elimination format.
