2014 NESCAC Softball Players of the Week

Player of the Week - March 24, 2014

Clair led Tufts with a .419 batting average (18-for-43), 17 runs scored and four home runs on the Jumbos’ spring break trip. She also drove home 12 runs. She homered in the first game of the season against Ramapo, went  3-for-3 with a pair of home runs and a double with three runs scored and two RBI against Plymouth State on March 19, and was 2-for-3 with a double, home run, four RBI and two runs versus Carleton on March 20. Clair also added a 2-for-4 game with three RBI and a run against Macalester on March 21 and was 3-for-4 with two runs against Keene State on March 22. Her single in the 11th inning against Babson on March 20 gave the Jumbos the go-ahead run in an eventual 5-1 win.

The two-time First Team All-American started her junior season stronger than ever, striking out 100 batters and allowing just 15 hits and four runs (0.80) while posting a 7-0 record in 45 innings. She pitched a no-hitter against Bethel on March 21, hurled four no-hit innings in relief when Tufts defeated Babson 5-1 in 11 innings on March 20 and struck out 19 Plymouth State hitters on March 19. She walked just five batters during the week.

Silkowitz hit .833 (5-of-6) with a 1.333 slugging percentage and .875 on-base percentage in two games against Little Three rival Wesleyan. Going 2-for-3 with three runs scored in game one, she had a double, a walk and a steal in an 8-3 win. Finishing a perfect 3-for-3 in game two, she scored three runs with a triple, two RBI, a walk and two stolen bases in a 13-4 win.

In a doubleheader against Bates, King tossed a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts in a 3-0 win in game one and allowed one earned run and seven hits with four strikeouts over five innings of relief in a 13-5 win in game two. She did not yield a walk in the Bates doubleheader and earned the victory in the circle in both games. Earlier in the week, King allowed one earned run and seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts over six innings in a 3-2 loss at Coast Guard and added two innings of scoreless relief with two hits allowed and two strikeouts to earn a save in a 4-1 win at Coast Guard.

Krul was red-hot at the plate as the Polar Bears took two of three against Trinity last weekend. The junior infielder batted .636 with four extra base hits, six RBI, a .692 on-base percentage and a 1.182 slugging percentage versus the Bantams. In Saturday’s doubleheader sweep, she went 5-for-7, reaching base seven times, scored five runs and clubbed a pair of doubles. In Friday’s loss to Trinity, she had a hand in five of Bowdoin’s six runs, scoring one and collecting four RBI. Krul, who is second in the NESCAC with a .458 batting average this spring, was also error-free in 12 chances.

Pardo had an outstanding week for the Cardinals, going 3-0 from the circle. On Saturday against Hamilton, she won both games of the doubleheader, 7-0 and 7-2, allowing nine hits with nine strikeouts. She also pitched briefly in the first game of the series, picking up four strikeouts from the six batters she faced. She opened the week with a two-hit shutout vs. St. Joseph (Conn.) while racking up a school-record 19 strikeouts in the eight-inning 1-0 win and scored the winning run. She carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. For the week, she pitched 23.1 innings, allowing 12 hits and two earned runs for a 0.60 ERA with 32 strikeouts.

Graebner batted .611 in a 4-1 week for the Ephs, who took 2 out of 3 from Amherst. She hit .500 (5-for-10) with a double, triple and 3 RBI in the three-game series versus the Jeffs. In a 5-1 Game 2 win, she had an RBI-double and an RBI-triple. In a 3-2 Game 3 win, she threw out the tying run at home. She had two assists from her center field position on the week, adding seven putouts with no errors.

Pitcher of the Week - April 14, 2014

Giglio went 4-0 with a 0.50 ERA over 28 innings in the pitcher’s circle, as she went the distance in each game. She pitched a pair of three-hitters against Trinity, including a shutout on Saturday. Giglio allowed one run in Game 2 against Bowdoin on Sunday, as Tufts pulled out the win to move to remain unbeaten in the NESCAC East division. Earlier in the week, she pitched a two-hit shutout at Rhode Island College on Wednesday. Giglio averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game.

Senior • Shortstop • Carlisle, Mass.

Ostrom batted .357 (5-for-14) with six runs and seven RBI last week as Trinity went 4-0 in NESCAC divisional play. She had a double, a triple, and three steals in the four games. In Monday’s win over Bates, Ostrom drove in five runs and scored another three.

Pitcher of the Week - April 21, 2014

Fournier pitched nine innings in two games allowing two hits and one run with 14 strikeouts during the NESCAC East weekend series at Bates, as Tufts remained undefeated in divisional play. Earlier in the week, she pitched the fourth perfect game of her career in the opener of a double-header against Bridgewater State on Thursday, striking out 15.

Clair hit four home runs last week and now has 16 on the season to tie her Tufts single-season mark from 2011. With 10 RBI last week, her 48 RBI for the season are tied for third among Jumbo single-season records. She homered in both games of a doubleheader at Colby on Friday and then in a single game at Bowdoin on Sunday to help the Jumbos complete their third straight 12-0 NESCAC East season. On the week, she batted .500 with a 1.167 slugging percentage, while also scoring nine runs.

Bovier threw a two-hitter in a 5-4 win over Middlebury that clinched the NESCAC West Division crown for the Ephs. Earlier in the week, she threw a one-hit shutout in 2-0 win over Keene State. She allowed only three hits in 14 innings pitched during the week and held opponents to a .065 batting average while striking out nine batters. She went 2-0 on the week.

Clair hit .778 (7-for-9) with three doubles, a home run, seven runs batted in and two runs scored as the Jumbos won the 2014 NESCAC Championship, their third straight conference crown and ninth overall. She was 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored in the championship game. She turned the game around when she blasted a three-run homer to left-center, her 18th of the season, to make it 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Fournier won all three games for Tufts at the 2014 NESCAC Championship as the Jumbos claimed their third straight title and ninth overall. She threw a one-hit shutout against Middlebury in the opener and beat Williams in the rain to clinch the title. She also had 11 strikeouts earlier in the weekend against Wheaton.
