Max Steinhorn - Amherst

Player of the Week

Max Steinhorn

Steinhorn was part of two plays that led to Amherst’s fourth conference championship in program history. His RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning allowed Amherst to walk off with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Bates in its opening game of the NESCAC Championship. In the bottom of the seventh in the championship game, with Amherst trailing Tufts 2-1, Steinhorn used his speed and heads-up base running to score from second base on a fielder’s choice in the infield. As the Jumbos tried to turn a double play to end the inning, Steinhorn beat the throw at the plate to give Amherst the lead.

Pitcher of the Week

Schneider sparked Amherst’s run to the NESCAC Championship with his effort in an opening win over Bates. The senior lefty struck out 10 Bobcats over 7.2 innings, giving up five hits and one earned run. Schneider recorded seven straight outs, four of them by strikeout, after allowing a single run in the fourth inning to the Bobcats.

Tanner Fulkerson - Wesleyan

Fulkerson went 7-for-10 with a double, six runs and two RBIs for the Cardinals. In a 6-5 win over Trinity in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday, he went 2-for-2 with two runs. With the Cardinals trailing 5-3 heading into the final inning, Fulkerson opened the seventh with a single, which started a three-run rally for Wesleyan. He also went 3-for-4 with two runs during an 8-7 loss at Western Connecticut on Wednesday.

Colby Morris - Middlebury

Morris threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout in a Game 1 victory over Amherst, striking out five batters. He is tied for the NESCAC lead with five wins and 52 strikeouts, while pacing the league with 63.1 innings pitched.

Eric Mah - Bowdoin

Player of the Week

Sophomore • Second Base • Newtonville, Mass.

Mah batted .700 (7-for-10) in a three game sweep of Colby. He knocked out three doubles, a home run, scored seven runs and had four RBIs. He also stole four bases. He had an on-base percentage of .714 while slugging 1.300 for the weekend. Playing second base in all three games, he fielded 20 chances without an error and helped Bowdoin turn three double plays.

R.J. Hall - Tufts

Hall allowed two hits and no runs with 13 strikeouts as Tufts’ 5-0 on Friday. He retired the final 13 batters he faced. He allowed a two-out first inning single and a two-out base hit in the second inning, and did not allow a hit from the third through the eighth.

Malcolm Nachmanoff

Player of the Week

Malcolm Nachmanoff

Senior • Outfield • Boston, Mass.

The Jumbos scored 64 runs in four games last week and Nachmanoff had nine runs scored and eight RBIs while hitting .692 and slugging 1.769 (four home runs, triple). In a three-game NESCAC East series sweep over Colby, he hit .778 (7-for-9) with three home runs, seven runs scored and five RBIs. Against UMass Dartmouth on Sunday, Tufts trailed 8-5 with one out in the bottom of the ninth when Nachmanoff hit a three-run home run to send the game to extra innings.

Jack Bohen - Williams

A southpaw, Bohen fanned a career-high 10 batters Saturday, pitching a complete-game two-hitter in the Ephs 2-1 win over Hamilton. It was Bohen’s second straight complete-game effort. He no-hit the Continentals for the first 4.1 innings and allowed two singles in the win, which evened his record at 2-2. He was flawless in the field as well, handling three chances without an error.

Matt Koperniak - Trinity

Matt Koperniak

Sophomore • Utility • Adams, Mass.

Koperniak batted .588 with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.176 slugging percentage in four games, including a three-game sweep at Colby. Koperniak went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in a 7-4 loss at Williams. He opened the Colby series by hitting for the cycle. He singled twice, doubled, tripled, and homered in his final at-bat in the ninth inning to complete the cycle in a 12-2 win on Friday. He also scored four runs, drove in three RBIs, and added a pair of stolen bases. Koperniak went 3-for-5 in Game 2 with two runs, a double, a home run, and two RBIs in a win.

R.J. Hall - Tufts

Pitcher of the Week

Hall allowed just one hit and no runs in seven innings of a combined shutout victory over Bowdoin on Friday as the Jumbos took Game 1 of the three-game NESCAC East series. Tufts went on to win two out of three over the Polar Bears. Hall struck out seven and allowed only one Bowdoin runner to third base during his appearance.

Cooper Mooney - Trinity

Player of the Week

Mooney batted .563 with a .632 on-base percentage and an .875 slugging percentage in four games. He hit safely in all four contests, totaling four runs and six RBIs for the week. He scored the game-tying runs in wins against Dean and Bowdoin, and had the game-winning RBI in another win over Bowdoin. He went 3-for-4 with a walk, a run, an RBI and three stolen bases in a 10-8 win against Dean. In Game 1 versus Bowdoin, Mooney was 2-for-3 with two runs, two walks, a double, a home run, and two RBIs. He also had a hit, knocked in a run, and stole a base in a 7-2 victory in Game 2 and went 3-for-5 with a double, a run, and two RBIs in a 6-3 win over the Polar Bears in the series finale.

McCaffrey did not allow a hit through six innings in 1-0 triumph over Middlebury in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday. He finished the game with 10 strikeouts, five walks, and struck out the side in the first, and six of the first seven batters he faced.

Nick Nardone - Amherst

Nardone homered in both ends of a doubleheader with Hamilton as the Mammoths opened NESCAC play. He drove in six runs in three games while batting .500 (4-for-8) during the week. In NESCAC series, Nardone went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBIs, and he slugged 1.250 for the week.

Alex Shafer - Trinity

Shafer won twice in four days, allowing two hits, two unearned runs, and no walks with three strikeouts over four innings in a 5-0 win over Salve Regina. He yielded five hits, two runs, and two walks, with four strikeouts over 6.2 innings in a 5-2 victory at Tufts, allowing the Bantams to take the series from the Jumbos, 2-1. Shafer’s ERA for the week was 0.84 in 10.2 innings pitched.

Matt Jeye - Wesleyan

Player of the Week

Jeye went 10-for-22 at the plate with a home run, two doubles, a triple, 14 RBIs and eight runs scored in a 3-2 week for the Cardinals in Tucson, Ariz. He registered eight RBIs, a three-run homer, a double, four runs, and a 3-for-5 effort in the batter’s box during a win over Oberlin. He also went 3-for-5 with five RBIs, a triple, a double and a run scored in a 14-5 victory over Wisconsin-Superior during the Cardinals’ spring-trip finale on Friday.

In six innings of Amherst’s 9-1 victory over Fitchburg State, Schneider fanned 11 batters and gave up one hit and two walks. His strikeout per walk ratio was 16.5, and he picked up his first victory of the season.

Nick Falkson - Tufts

Falkson hit .333 with seven RBIs and six runs scored in Tufts’ first four games of the season in Virginia. His two-run single versus Castleton gave the Jumbos a 3-2 lead after they had trailed 2-0 entering the sixth. He had a hit and scored a run in every game, including going 2-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored in a 17-2 win over Marymount on Sunday, a team that had beat Tufts on Saturday.

Ryan Earle - Wesleyan

Earle recorded two saves and a win in relief efforts during a 6-1 opening week for the Cardinals. He earned the save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning during a 5-2 season-opening win over Dubuque. He earned the win against Greenville with a scoreless performance over the final 1.2 innings during a 7-6 victory in seven innings on Monday. In an 8-6 triumph over Oberlin, he entered the game with the tying run on deck and one out in the ninth, and proceeded to get out of a bases-loaded jam to preserve the win.
